About This Opportunity

Massive apprenticeship training opportunity across Northern Railway divisions and workshops under Apprentices Act 1961.

Northern Railway (NR), under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, is inviting online applications from eligible candidates for engagement of 4116 Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act 1961 for imparting training at various Divisions, Units, and Workshops across the Northern Railway region.

This is one of the largest apprenticeship recruitment drives, offering training opportunities in diverse trades including Fitter, Electrician, Welder, Mechanic (Diesel/Motor Vehicle), Carpenter, Turner, Machinist, Painter, and many other skilled trades. Apprentices will receive hands-on training under experienced professionals at prestigious railway facilities across multiple divisions including Lucknow, Delhi, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and other centers.

Important Note: Training under this program does NOT guarantee absorption in Indian Railways. It is a training opportunity meant to develop skilled personnel. No employment obligation exists after successful completion of apprenticeship. The engagement is on apprenticeship basis as per Apprentices Act 1961 and applicable rules.

Eligibility Criteria

Complete requirements for Act Apprentice positions at Northern Railway.

Essential Qualification

  • 10th Class SSC/Matriculation/10th Pass
  • Minimum Marks 50% in aggregate
  • From Recognized Board/Institute
  • AND ITI Passed In relevant trade (NCVT/SCVT)
Must have already passed both 10th and ITI on the date of notification (18/11/2025). Awaited results NOT acceptable.

Age Limit (As on 24.12.2025)

  • Minimum Age 15 Years (Completed)
  • Maximum Age 24 Years (Not Completed)
  • SC/ST Relaxation Upper limit +5 years
  • OBC Relaxation Upper limit +3 years
  • PwBD Relaxation Upper limit +10 years
Ex-Servicemen get additional relaxation up to 10 years for service rendered + 3 years (minimum 6 months service). Age shall be calculated as on 24 December 2025, 23:59 Hours.

Category Certificates

  • SC/ST Candidates Caste certificate (Central Govt format)
  • OBC Candidates Caste + Non-Creamy Layer cert (valid 2025-26, issued from 01.01.2025)
  • PwBD Candidates PH/PWD certificate (Competent Medical Board)
  • Ex-Servicemen Discharge certificate or Armed Forces serving certificate
Certificates must be in Central Government format. Must be produced at time of Document Verification. Self-attested copies to be uploaded with application.

Important Conditions

  • Trade Matching ITI trade MUST match applied trade slot
  • One Application Only Multiple applications = Summary rejection
  • No Amendments Cannot change application after submission
  • Medical Fitness As per Apprentices Act 1961
Candidates applying for trade where no slots notified = application rejected (no fee refund). Medical certificate from Govt. authorized doctor required at Document Verification.

Reservation & Quotas

  • SC/ST/OBC As per vacancy pattern
  • PwBD (Horizontal) Separate quota across categories
  • Ex-Servicemen Including children of deceased/disabled
  • Women No fee for women candidates
Unfilled reserved seats may be offered to other categories as per rules. PwBD candidates must ensure disability matches notified trade requirements.

Selection Criteria

  • Merit Basis Average of 10th & ITI percentages
  • Equal Weightage Both qualifications equally weighted
  • Tie-breaker 1 Older age preferred
  • Tie-breaker 2 Earlier 10th pass date preferred
No written test or viva. Merit prepared cluster-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise in descending order of marks.

Online Application Steps

Step 1: Visit RRC/NR Website

  1. Go to www.rrcnr.org (Official RRC Northern Railway website)
  2. Look for "Engagement of Act Apprentice" or similar link under Recruitment section
  3. Click on "Apply Online" link for Act Apprentice Recruitment 2025
  4. Registration portal will open for new candidates

Step 2: Candidate Registration

  1. Enter Full Name, Father's Name, Community, Category, Mobile Number, Email ID, Date of Birth
  2. Select appropriate Category: General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen
  3. Register to create an account
  4. Password will be sent to Email ID and SMS to registered Mobile Number
  5. Login using credentials to proceed to Application Form

Step 3: Fill Application Form

  1. Enter personal details, contact information, address
  2. Fill educational details: 10th Board, Pass Year, Percentage marks
  3. Fill ITI details: Trade name, Trade certificate issue date, ITI marks/percentage
  4. Select relevant trade from notified list matching your ITI trade EXACTLY
  5. Select cluster and workshop/unit where training slots are available for your trade
  6. Choose TWO preferences for test/document verification center
  7. Review all details carefully before proceeding to document upload

Step 4: Upload Documents

  1. Proof of Date of Birth: SSC/10th Certificate or DOB Certificate (PDF/JPG)
  2. 10th Pass Certificate & Mark Sheet (PDF/JPG, clearly visible)
  3. ITI Consolidated Mark Sheet of all semesters (PDF/JPG)
  4. ITI National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT (PDF/JPG)
  5. Caste Certificate (for SC/ST/OBC candidates, Central Govt format)
  6. Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (for OBC candidates, if applicable, issued from 01.01.2025)
  7. PwBD Certificate (for PwBD candidates, issued by competent Medical Board)

Step 5: Pay Application Fee & Submit

  1. Click "Make Payment" section
  2. Select appropriate fee category (if applicable)
  3. Enter payment amount: ₹100 for General/OBC (or ₹0 for exempted categories)
  4. Complete online payment through available portal
  5. On successful payment, e-receipt will be generated with date
  6. Download and print application form along with payment receipt
  7. Print fee payment slip for candidate's personal records
  8. Save all details for future reference

Step 6: Document Verification

  1. Carry printed application form with Registration Number
  2. Carry E-Admit Card downloaded from RRC website
  3. Carry ORIGINAL documents and 1 set of self-attested photocopies of:
  4. • Date of Birth proof (10th/DOB Certificate)
  5. • 10th Pass Certificate & Mark Sheet
  6. • ITI Certificate & Mark Sheets
  7. • Caste/OBC/PwBD/Ex-SM Certificates

  9. Attend Document Verification at notified date, time, and place as per E-Admit Card
  10. Verification will be done by authorized Railway personnel
  11. Any discrepancies will result in summary rejection

  • Medical Fitness: Must meet physical fitness standards as per Apprentices Act 1961 and trade-specific requirements. Medical certificate mandatory at Document Verification.
  • Impersonation Warning: Any candidate found using unfair means, impersonation, or submitting forged certificates will be permanently debarred from all RRB/RRC examinations and railway recruitment.
  • Trade-Trade Matching: Applicant's ITI trade MUST match notified trade slots – mismatched applications will be rejected with no fee refund.
  • PwBD Disability Matching: PwBD candidates must ensure their disability matches the disability category notified for applied trade as per rules.
  • Ex-Servicemen Benefits: Children of deceased/disabled Ex-Servicemen, children of serving officers/jawans, and Ex-Servicemen themselves eligible as per rules.
  • No Correspondence: RRC will not be responsible for sending individual replies to candidates not selected or called. No correspondence entertained regarding individual applications.
