Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Essential: MBBS degree from any recognized University in the allopathic system of medicine
  • Desirable: Post Graduate degree in General Medicine (will be an added advantage)
  • Candidates must be registered with Medical Council of India / National Medical Commission

Experience Required

  • Minimum: 2 years of experience of practising medicine in any hospital or clinic as Medical Practitioner
  • Experience after graduation (MBBS) will be counted
  • Experience certificate must contain details of duty hours and nature of duty

Location Requirement

  • Applicant's dispensary or place of residence should be within a radius of 10-15 km from RBI Chennai dispensaries
  • This is mandatory as candidates need to travel to multiple dispensary locations as per requirement

Age Limit

  • Banks Medical Consultants may be attached to one or more dispensaries as per RBI requirement
  • Working hours and dispensary assignments are subject to change as per administrative requirements
  • Duty hours exclude Bank holidays (except half-yearly and annual closing days)

Job Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Provide free medical consultation, advice, prescription and treatment to RBI staff, their family members, dependent parents, and retired employees covered under Medical Assistance Fund Scheme
  • Treatment of minor and major illnesses for employees and dependents
  • Treatment of emergency cases in dispensary, departments, RBI premises or outside
  • Administration of all types of injections (responsibility for any adverse reactions rests with the consultant)
  • Handle important dressings and minor surgeries
  • Issue medical certificates for leave on medical grounds and countersign certificates from other practitioners
  • Home visits to officers and staff in RBI quarters when required (visit fees as per RBI schedule)
  • Certify health and fitness for service of employees and prospective employees
  • Issue order forms for supply of special/costly drugs to approved chemists
  • Secure hospital facilities for employees requiring indoor hospitalization
  • Accompany patients to hospital in case of cardiovascular or major emergencies

Administrative Duties

  • Conduct monthly inspection of office premises, staff quarters and officers quarters for sanitation and hygiene
  • Perform prophylactic inoculations (typhoid) and vaccination (small pox) when necessary
  • Submit annual health report of staff as on 31st March in prescribed form
  • Ensure proper storage and distribution of medicines with maintenance of records
  • Advise on drug indents and counter-check drug stock balance and consumption
  • Provide professional opinion on reasonableness of medical claim costs when referred
  • Perform other work related to Banks Medical Facilities Scheme and Medical Assistance Fund Scheme

Selection Stages: Application Screening → Shortlisting → Personal Interview → Medical Tests → Document Verification → Engagement

Selection Procedure

  1. Application Screening: RBI will scrutinize all applications received by 11 Dec 2025
  2. Shortlisting: RBI reserves right to raise minimum eligibility standards to limit candidates for interview. Mere fulfillment of eligibility criteria does not entitle candidate to interview call.
  3. Personal Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. Interview date will be intimated separately.
  4. Medical Tests: Shortlisted candidates after interview will undergo medical tests (cost to be borne by candidates)
  5. Document Verification: Original certificates will be verified before engagement
  6. Final Engagement: Subject to medical fitness, document verification completion, and acceptance of Terms & Conditions
  • No TA/DA reimbursement for attending interview
  • RBI will not entertain correspondence with candidates not found eligible or not shortlisted
  • Decision of RBI regarding eligibility and selection is final

Important Terms & Conditions

Contract Duration & Termination

  • Contract Period: 3 years from date of engagement (no renewal after completion)
  • Termination Clause: 3 months notice by either party OR 3 months remuneration in lieu thereof
  • Fresh Empanelment: After 3 years, fresh recruitment exercise will be undertaken (existing consultants eligible to apply)
  • Engagement is temporary - no claim for regular employment at any stage

Substitute Arrangements

  • In case of absence, consultant must make substitute arrangements acceptable to RBI (in terms of qualification and experience) at own risk and cost
  • Such alternate arrangement should not exceed 5 days at a time
  • Cannot absent from duty without RBI permission and without making alternate arrangement

Caste Certificate Verification

  • Engagement of SC/OBC candidates is provisional, subject to caste certificate verification from competent authority
  • If verification reveals false claim, services will be terminated forthwith without assigning reason
  • RBI reserves right to take legal action in case of false claims
  • OBC candidates must belong to Central List of OBCs (not State List)
  • OBC candidates in Creamy Layer NOT entitled to reservation

Code of Conduct

Key Conduct Requirements

  • Maintain strictest secrecy regarding RBI affairs and affairs of its constituents
  • Cannot divulge confidential information directly or indirectly
  • Serve RBI honestly and faithfully, promote RBI interests
  • Cannot take active part in politics or stand for election
  • Cannot become member of trade union or participate in strike
  • Cannot contribute to press about RBI affairs without prior written permission
  • Cannot solicit or accept gifts from employees
  • Cannot outsource services to RBI
  • Must not be under influence of intoxicating drink or drug while on duty
  • Shall not indulge in sexual harassment of any woman at workplace
  • Cannot give, solicit or receive gift, gratuity, commission in return for referring patients
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality perpetually (survives after contract termination)

Liability & Indemnification

  • Consultant's liability is that of independent contractor, not agent of RBI
  • Must indemnify RBI for any loss due to disclosure of confidential information
  • Responsible for ensuring qualifications don't restrict from working as General Medical Practitioner
  • Must indemnify RBI if conflict arises due to postgraduate qualifications restricting general practice

Additional Information

Administrative Control

  • Banks Medical Consultant will be under administrative control of Regional Director, RBI Chennai
  • Must observe, comply and obey all orders and directions from superior officers

  • Any corrigendum issued will be published ONLY on RBI website: www.rbi.org.in
  • Candidates should regularly check RBI website for updates
  • No separate notification will be issued in newspapers

Dispute Resolution

  • Any dispute arising from contract shall be subject to jurisdiction of Courts of Chennai only
